Dear phpMyBitTorrent Community,
it's now time to take a deep breath and sit down, relax, and speak to you all about important news.
This project started as a stand-alone porting of the PHP-Nuke module developed by me and Raulken of Bitnile.
I have put all my efforts to this project. I used it to learn more about Software Engineering, since I'm about to obtain a grade in Computer Engineering. I considered this tracker as my child, and I know almost every line of code in it. Each new improvement has been a joy for me: I have seen a complete program's birth when we released the 1.0 version.
However, it was already in the air that I couldn't go on with the project because of other business. My university timetables are so strict that I'm home just for sleeping and eating, and I'm so filled of work that I can't follow the project.
Also, since I can't be a Tracker developer for all my life, I have been working on a new project, that someone (me included) could define more serious. It has been a secret for a long time, but now I can reveal all the details about my new project.
When I attended the lessons of Data Bases II with prof. Lucio Sansone of University of Naples Federico II, I have been asked to write a mini-thesis for the exam. I decided to make the specifications for a Traffic Information System (TIS, what we in Italian call usually Infotraffico) using Semantic Web and Data Warehouses. That project helped me obtain the maximum score (30/30 and lode). I and the classmate that helped me with the project decided to participate to a contest by Menti@Contatto association, where the prize is 3000¤. We believed in the strength of our project when dealing with road security (search for Sicurezza Stradale in Google Italy and see how important this topic is here).
Last Friday, at the Mostra d'Oltremare Expo in Naples, Doctor Antonio Anzivino was announced as the winner. Well, thanks for having called me a doctor i said myself. But it's not such important if compared to winning 3000¤ (3988$ today).
So here we are now. I'll have to work with Autostrade per l'Italia, the Italian company who owns and manages motorways, to implement it. I hope I will be able to spread the project all around the world.
When I'll translate the project into English, I will have care to publish it even here.
But the phpMyBitTorrent Project, even if will be alive forever (I'll keep paying the domain), will probabily miss its main developer and creator.
I hope lodp and joeroberts do a good work with it. Please do no more help calls to me
